In a gratifying end to a patent infringement dispute in Spain, the Swedish company TTS Ships Equipment AB and a Spanish competitor have reached an amicable settlement.

The dispute with the Spanish competitor SP Consultores y Servicios related to the infringement of the patents owned by TTS for the use of a bow ramp solution of Folding Frame type. The settlement covers three detected infringements related to three Ropax vessels under construction at two Spanish shipyards.
“It is very satisfying that we have reached an agreement in this dispute”, says Stellan Bernsro, President of TTS Ships Equipment AB. “We continuously invest in the development of new technologies to offer the market the most modern and competitive cargo access solutions. It is then very important to make sure that we also receive the full benefits of our own developed solutions”.
The TTS Folding Frame bow ramp was developed in response to altered rules for increased safety, and provides a very safe and space-efficient bow access arrangement.
Already some years ago TTS Ships Equipment AB had a dispute with another competitor about the same patent of a Folding Frame bow ramp. That dispute also ended in an amicable settlement.
“We definitively will continue to defend our different patents around the world and prevent any impermissible use, while shipyards as well as shipowners acknowledge our leading technical ability”, says Bernsro.
